The Effects of Latency on Player Performance and Experience in a Cloud Gaming System

ABOUT

Due to the increasing popularity of cloud gaming systems, it is important to understand the effects of latency on users. This project describes experiments my team and I used to determine the effects of latency on player performance and quality of experience (QoE) through player scores and subjective ratings from users. We found that QoE ratings and player scores decrease proportionally to the addition of latency. Our experiment design can also be used to control other network conditions like packet loss.

MY ROLE

Along with my teammates, I researched topics dealing with cloud gaming and many different methods used to provide game streaming services. I also participated in executing the user studies where we had participants play Crazy Taxi at varying latency levels to determine how it affected their performance.
